Well if you didnt know anything about this particular aircraft type (or indeed much about aviation) then with the angle of this particular shot, you might believe the aircraft was a 'pusher' type with a canard. In which case the fins might well be considered as shoes?
Perhaps the "shoe" reference is for the ARN-7 loop antenna mounted on the belly. I've mostly seen them mounted on the top near the front.
I like John Watson's interpretation. Two feet (shoes... vertical stabilizers) standing upright when it's on the ground. Good job, John!
