Does the exhaust from the turbo shaft engines provide any thrust to the helicopter in flight?

Tom, no they do not. The power turbine extracts all the power from the engines and sends it into a transmission that the rotor shaft is attached to. On CH-46's, the drive shafts were connected to what is called a mix box that is bolted to the rear transmission and has a second coupler to send power through a synch shaft for the front transmission. No helicopter gets thrust from the exhaust out of the engines. I actually would stand in the exhaust while refueling when it was chilly out, even in California.
