Lockheed EC-121 Constellation (HB-RSC)
Lockheed L-1049F Super Constellation
Comments
EC-121 was the designation for the Warning Star Airborne Early Warning system used by the military. It's distinctive for the large radome just aft of the wing, This is most likely the L-1049 Lockheed Super Constellation, a civilian aircraft.
You are right Todd. This is not an EC-121. But "CONI" is the official sign for "Lockheed L-1049F Super Constellation".
It is a C-121C, cn 4175, delivered Nov. 1, 1955 to US Air Force as 54-0156 (USAF acceptance 21 Sept 1955), registered 26 March 1973 as N73455, registered in Switzerland as HB-RSC 2011. A 360° cockpit view I made two years ago in a hangar from SR-Technics at LSZH Zurich http://www.ico.ch/pano/connie/connie.html - Rolf Eichenberger
Nice shot!!!
Here we go again! jim gevay's Comment is most enlightening. And, of course, Herr Eichenberger's [SWISSOAK] Comment precisely nails it down. It is the same aircraft whose photo appears above it on the main page. Please refer to my Comment on it - which explains its ownership by Breitling.
BTW - Am I the only one that picked up on the fact that it's the same aircraft in the two photos? [Check serial numbers/registration ID]
@ Art Troutman - Small correction, the Connie is owned by the SCFA (Super Constellation Flyer Association), Breitling is the main sponsor, btw I was the lucky one who was allowed to draw the design of the livery - Rolf Eichenberger
