Nice study with blurred background from the panning effect. Technically it's not a DC-3 but rather a C-47 Skytrain with a shortened tail cone for glider-towing shackles, and an astrodome in the cabin roof behind the cockpit, but heh! it's got windows just like a DC-3 so why split hairs? Let's not spoil the impact of a great picture!

Here's the "skinny" on this "DC-3"... which did indeed start out as a C-47 and was manufactured in 1943 during wartime production...
N47HL, the Commemorative Air Force's C-47B "Bluebonnet Belle" was originally procured with USAAF s/n 43-49942, c/n 27203. It went to Great Britain's RAF as a Dakota IV and was later transferred to Canada's RCAF according to Joe Baugher's information.
