It's fortunate for you older generation to have seen such a beautiful aircraft in only 5 years of its operation at TWA.

The landscape in LA is very different these days.

Sometime in 1977-78 flew on a TWA 747 from LA to NYC. There were only 11 passengers on the plane, I think there may have been more crew.

The camera lens must have been huge. Those mountains are 50 miles away.

Watch the beginning of the movie “ High Anxiety “ to see it flying.
Dramatic opening sequence.

My amateur photogrammetric guess is 300mm lens on 35mm film for 7-deg field of view,
then scanned and cropped to 4 degrees across for this well-centered framing.
Camera location between LAX Terminals 1 and 2, looking NEbN, toward azimuth 35 deg.
Aircraft on 1/2-mile final for runway 24R, altitude 150 feet above Sepulveda Blvd.
Prominent building identified at corner of South La Tijera Blvd and Bleriot Ave,
about twice as far away as the 747. Background is San Gabriel Mountains front range,
near Strawberry Peak, elev 6167 ft, 28.4 miles distant.

@rairden - maybe. You might be correct on some of those. Do you know if the 35mm film used was Fuji or Kodak? However, you forgot to mention that the PIC is 54 years old next birthday, and had a cheese-filled omelette for breakfast, and you also forgot to mention that the first officer had a bathroom break at 13 minutes before commencement of finals. :)

@Viv Pike - I actually laughed out loud :-)

Lovely pic.
