This is what it looked like at our local South African Air Force Base back in the 1970's and 80's.
We were engaged in an Angolan border war against a Terrorist group that was supported by Russian and Cuban forces. Our forces were transported to a Namibian Air Force Base closest to the Angolan border in these reliable workhorse Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft. As the Namibian Air Force Base was close to enemy lines our landing strategy there was done by either doing a spiral descent or an almost 90°
nose down dive from above the base.
