It will really get interesting now, as far as mergers and consolidations go; battle of the regionals. Id be looking for a lot looser or non dedicated contracts in the future as all the legacy carriers look to save a buck.

How many people remember the old days when SkyWest just did feeder flights for Western?

Isn't Skywest the sucsessor name to ASA and the rest that that were bought/merged

Not exactly. Skywest is an independent regional airline whose holing company purchased ASA and then ExpressJet. ASA and XJT have been merged into one; SkyWest will continue to operate separately.

Make that "holding" company.

These aircraft are replacing the Mesa CRJ-200's and Dash 8's operating out of PHX. The Mesa CRJ-900 operation at PHX remains unchanged.

These aircraft are primarily coming from the SkyWest/Airtran codeshare operation out of MKE that recently ended.

Kinda really hard to tell from the article. It says they are replacing Mesa. Is Mesa going away compltely, eventually?

SkyWest's aircraft in PHX are indeed replacing Mesa aircraft. Will Mesa go away? No, but they probably will get sold (in way form or another) to someone.
