Maybe they only put 5 bucks worth in. Times are tough!

I looked up the spec the estimate for fuel burn is 75gph at altitude

then they should not have been flying a KA...lol

I believe the pictures do led to some clues. The prop is not bent (the only one that is bent is the one that is down due to the weight of the airplane leaning on it) so we know it wasn't turning on impact. He also landed short of the field so skidding off the runway or overshooting are also not an option. (KPWK 260052Z 14003KT 9SM VCTS CLR 24/21 A2984 RMK AO2 LTG DSNT E AND SE TSE09B29 SLP100 T02390206) I listened to the ATC audio (LiveATC) and he gives no mention to an issue he just says, "2JR we ain't going to make it. 2JR we ain't going to make it ...few seconds later....we ain't going to make it 2JR! Dammm...We are going to be on the road!" Not making the field and landing less than a 1/2 mile short of the field with a dual engine failure seems odd in a King Air with no previously reported engine problem(s) to ATC. My guess is fuel starvation for one reason or another. Additional, the right wing was almost completely torn off. I would think if there had a been a significant amount of fuel. They would have been foaming the area and evacuating.
If you listen to the ATC audio what I find most interesting is the tower controller seeming to not respond at N92JR distress calls. Granted he didn't say "MAY DAY, MAY DAY, MAY DAY." He tells him the winds are calm and then proceeds to give tell another aircraft he will be out of here shortly as there is a King Air on a 1/2 mile final. Then after 2JR makes another distress call...He asks another aircraft if he heard those strange transmissions.

Interesting.... Fuel starvation sounds like a very good alternative... no pilot wants to admit he ran out of gas over the radio, so I would say that is a strong possibility... does anyone have the full tail number?

Thankyou.. By tracing his flight, he just needed a few hundred more feet of altitude and he probably would have made ie... See http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N92JR and also note the new Google Earth icon (or at least I just noted it). Shows the flight path very clearly.

Fuel starvation was the cause according to a friend who knows the pilot

Starvation, exhaustion,,, he ran out of gas. According to FD people that I know who were on the scene, there was less than 4 gallons.

If he "ran out of gas" it would be fuel exhaustion, not starvation.

Hate to see that... Good that there were no serious injuries. Will be interesting to find out the cause, that picture doesn't give many clues.

It was raining that night really bad... So I'm thinking it couldn't stop in time because it was wet.

Seems like there needs to be more too it than that... Did he come in HOT, Over Shoot, or not make the field??? Too many unanswered questions. If his brakes were unresponsive, he would have still have reverse pitch on the prop.

He tried to land on the short runway and slid off

No he didn't Don't know where you got that misinformation from. He was going for 16, the long one. They have released excerpts of the tower tapes and he told them he wasn't going to make it

I never heard any tapes so i am trying to do my best.

Too bad to hear. Hope the feds don't fault the pilot too bad. Sounds like he may have missed one of his numbers, or made a bad decision on where to land.

I posted the ATC recording on liveatc.net under the "Interesting Recordings." If you go to that post on the forum, there are a couple of pictures as well. I too noted that the ATC didn't seem to respond... my personal thoughts -- which are admittedly just speculation and should be taken as such -- are that when you combine such an unexpected transmission with the pilot's very thick southern accent, perhaps the local controller simply didn't understand him. ("7MC, you pickin' that up, that strange transmission?") And that's not a judgment on southern accents, that just one possible explanation.

it originated at my home airfield -- friend of mine talked to the pilot it was fuel exhaustion, no further details.

Sorry to hear that... I once worked a fuel qty issue on a DASH 8 and Dispatch sent it in with MIN FUEL. When I got it into the hangar, the left wing drained less than 5 gallons... That would include the useable fuel The problem with the plane ironically was the LOW FUEL QTY Float Switch was bad. glad he didn't have to make a go around.

I hope the feds and company are not too hard on the pilot....

Man that is rough. I am SO paranoid about fuel. I usually get it topped off even just to go around the pattern. Anybody can make a mistake though, I guess!

anyone know any more details on B200GT N510LD that crashed off KBTR a few weeks ago killing Pilot?

He probably just didn't take into account the line of storms (ie no weather or old briefing) and did way more detouring and climbing than he had expected to do...I see where he had leveled off at about 170 then climbed to about 220...There was probably some pretty good wind in that storm too....he would have had enough fuel if he could have flown his intended straight course.

Misleading title, it's not at the airport...
