Looks like the tail number may be N789UP based on Flightaware data. BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) -- A small plane with at least five people on board has crashed near the city of Bloomington in central Illinois. The Federal Aviation Administration says the Cessna 414 took off from Indianapolis and crashed just short of the airport in Bloomington after midnight Tuesday. The agency had no information about possible injuries or deaths. It said that based on preliminary information there were at least five… (www.kwwl.com) المزيد...

Local station states aircraft involved was a Cessna 414 and post a picture of a Citation...aviation and journalism, they just can't get it right.

I have a 1000+ in a 414A. it is a very easy aircraft to get in a aft CG condition. with seven people and a light fuel load that CG goes all the way back. I always had a 100 lbs in the forward nose locker and had the packs sitting towards the front. My condolences to the families .

Interesting tweet from the game from one of the coaches killed in the crash.

That's obviously not a Cessna 414 in the pic.

It certainly looks like a loss of control but we can't exclude a medical event until the autopsy has been done. R.I.P. and condolences.

Illinois State coach among 7 dead in plane crash on way home from Final 4

)Seven people -- including Illinois State University associate men's basketball coach Torrey Ward and deputy athletic director Aaron Leetch -- died when their small plane crashed while heading back from the NCAA tournament final.

The aircraft went down overnight Monday about 2 miles east of the Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington, McLean County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Bill Tate said.

That's about 5 miles from the campus of Illinois State, where Ward and Leetch both worked. It was not immediately known who else was on the aircraft.

The loss of Aaron Leetch was deeply felt here in Spokane, WA too. Aaron had been on the teaching staff at our Whitworth University for two years before moving on to greener pastures. He will be sorely missed. A great guy and an avid sportsman.

That is groundspeed, not airspeed. Dont comment if you dont know the difference

that kind of wording does not belong here among professional pilots. If you had any aviation knowledge the first thing you would realize is that the 414 has a useful load of around 1750 Lbs. on its best day. With a probable 100 gal. of fuel at 670 Lbs. would leave a useful of about 1080 Lbs. Most likely that he was overloaded by 400 to 650 Lbs. The plane lost about 70 Kt. of ground speed over a min. so most likely he had an engine event. TO Brain it is always easy to assume the pilot was at fault so let's wait on that kind of suggestion. Have a nice day all as we are still here to have these discussions.

The Chancellor has 2000+ useful. Even more if it was a RAM conversion. Avgas is 6.01 lb/gal. Weight was probably OK. Placing people so CG was right was probably more critical. Weather sucked. Sudden speed loss and left turn when all misses go to right right along with the loss of control does point to a possible left engine issue. No black boxes so let's let the investigators do their work.

I use to own a 414A chancellor with the ram VII and you are only quoting book figures not actual figures from the ageing weight gain of these aircraft. N789UP had TSIO-520"s rated at 300hp.I always use 6.7 for fuel starting in 1962. 7 grown men more than likely ( because we cannot be sure) to have averaged weight of 230 lbs that would be 1600 lbs. plus more than likely considering the weather the pilot would have at least 120 gal, of fuel = at your fuel weight 720 lbs. total = 2320 lbs. over weight by about 450 lbs on it's best day. we both agree to the probable reason at this point anyway.

Okay..then how many hours do you have? This way I can decide who's info carries more weight. 33k allench1 or yours.

allench1 -2
You may know Jim Groff before he retired from Beechcraft he flew to Hilton head to sell me a new 350 back in 2005. FYI i do have the hours stated every pilot that has the experience you have to fly a 58 probably knows the 414 with the load that this plan had was over more than likely over gross. I just took exception to him putting the event on the pilot.
allench1
allench1 -2
It is not as almost every pilot flies the 414 or 421 at some time over gross you just do not want to have a engine problem in certain flight parameters. and as for your other lame comment 90% of the post r from qualified aviation enthusiast. unlike yourself. your single digit IQ is showing

1) even if he was overloaded at departure (sounds reasonably, a C414A with 7 adults very quickly is); the crash happened at the end of the flight when fuel has been burnt
2) weight and balance is a pilot's responsibility
3) to me is sounds like a combination of factors: slightly overweight or at least close to MTOW plus gear and flaps down plus maybe an engine problem: coupled together it very quickly gives a crashing C414A.
4) at the same time: planes that crash in thick fog very often tend to crash because of pilot error

Brian you obviously have no clue has to how Flightaware operates. It shows GROUNDSPEED..that is speed over the GROUND and it is in MPH/KTS. It does NOT show airspeed. But if you were a pilot you'd understand this.

allench1
allench1 -2
any pilot knows that winds above "ground level" is usually 30 to 60 degrees diff.

once again you show your lack of aviation knowledge as many components go into the stall speed of an aircraft, banking, load, load placement, slip,

This basic level of pilot knowledge is obviously far above your capabilities. Airspeed flys a plane, not groundspeed. How does it reduce the component between stall speed and actual airspeed? Not sure how you can think you are right. You keep referencing groundspeed and stall speed. The two are not in anyway related.

[This poster has been suspended.]

ndrwschr
Andrew Schreier 1
Actualy ATP but whatever. Just stop trying to explan what you obviously don't understand. Without the actual readout from the airspeed indicator, you cannot reference how far above stall speed he is. I get tired of reading posts on here from people like you jumping to conclusions based on info you don't have. It is misleading and gives aviation a negative look when you assume certain things happen in a plane without correct information.
adamds83
Adam Schreier 0
Brian I actually have over 4000hrs total time and 2000 in king air 200's with an ATP certificate. So to say I don't know what im talking about must be hard for you to comprehend coming from someone like you that plays flight simulators all day and doesn't have a single clue as to how planes actually fly. So I speak for all the professional pilots when I say quit talking you're making yourself look like a complete and uneducated fool.
