Airlines: No role for government in seat-pitch decisions

Says the group who - with a straight face - say "We can make 24" pitch and 16" width work well for everyone. It's what customers are asking for" My guess is regulatory guidance is from a safety standpoint, NOT aimed at depriving airlines of revenue.

The problem is the FAA currently "affirms seats meet safety standards" by allowing computer simulations to show that the seating configuration can safely evacuate in the time limit. They for some reason don't require the airline to provide proof via a statistically accurate sample cross-section of ages and physical ability to actually demonstrate the egress in real life conditions.

As soon as public health and safety is concerned, the regulatory authorities de have a role to play. This is clearly the case here.

That is rather an arrogant response isn't it?
The airlines will not show any concern for passenger comfort (they don't call it cattle class for nothing)so someone has to and judging by this comment the government is a good choice.
The airlines have brought this upon themselves.

Well, I suppose it might just stop the really grossly overweight fatties from trying to squeeze into seats then spreading over to take my space!
