Tanzania's government will buy two new Airbus jets and one plane from Bombardier Inc as part of a fleet expansion plan for the national flag carrier, the president said on Thursday. President John Magufuli has personally taken charge of the revival of Tanzania's loss-making state carrier Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), spending hundreds of millions of dollars purchasing eight new planes since 2016. They do have a couple of Q400s, maybe that’s what they mean. Could be that they haven’t heard the Q400 is no longer in production by Bombardier.

It cant be the Q400 because when they sold the company to MRJ the said there were finshing there production of backorders but werent producing anymore after that.

They sold the CRJ division to MRJ...Longview Capital, Viking Air's parent and holder of all the rest of the De Havilland certificates, bought the Dash 8/Q400 line, which said it will continue production till the Downsview lease expires in 2021/22. It also now owns De Havilland rights, and word has it will be calling the craft De Havilland.

Thats right. I knew MRJ bought something. When the CRJ line got sold they said there were cleaning up the backlog and not selling anymore aircraft. As far as Tanzania they arenʻt buying Bombardiers. According to Retuer they are buying De Havilland Aircraft as well as airbus aircraft. See link below

Thanks for the follow up, William
Nice write-up on craft type bought, except I wish reports got their facts straight. "Last year, Longview Aviation Capital, the parent company of another Canadian aircraft manufacturer De Havilland, bought the Bombardier's Q Series program and rebranded it with its previous name "Dash 8"." Ummm no...last year Longview bought the Q400 program along with the De Havilland name and trademarks, and then resurrected the company name. So they were not the parent company yet..smh.

It’s not clear from the text, they might buy a used Q400. Their main competitor, Precision Air, has a fleet of ATRs.
