Why are you surprised?

I can say one thing. In a landing like that, you have a pilot and not a button pusher. It appears he was looking at at least 30degrees.

It really shows how much training these pilots go thru when they have step up to the plate and deal with 150kms winds, just unreal the size of this jet bein manouvered to a amazing safe landing.Thumbs up to these pilots with all the lives at stake.ps.Calgary,Edmonton and Vancouver are all international stops as well.Canada does not revolve around Toronto.

"Canada does not revolve around Toronto" << could not have said it better myself! We may also want to consider that Calgary does have a big German and Eastern European community;)

I live only 2 hrs from YVR and fly a lot to and from Europe. I prefer YXX-YYC-AMS over YVR-AMS direct for many reasons. YYC is one of the better airports!

I think it is one hell of a note when you look at the skill of a pilot in this video making such a kick ass landing and more than half the posts on here are talking about destinations. You all ought to try it and then see what you want to talk about!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a great video and a great landing by a good pilot. Seen many other similar videos. I only started to talk about destinations because someone was surprised that something was landing in Calgary.

Granted, the crew shows great skills. But it's not rare to have strong winds during landing or take-off, and it's still what they are trained (and payed) to do.

yikes...methinks I'd have landed in Vancouver, not Calgary

The days of all Canadians being required to pass through Toronto/Montreal(like a Canuck version of the Hajj) or Vancouver to escape Canadian airspace are over...AC flies daily from Calgary to LHR and FR A, KL to Amsterdam and LH to Frankfort. Air Transat provides weekly flights to Europe while AC and Westjet fly directly to Cuba and other holiday destinations.

Just struck me as an odd direct flight location for a German carrier.

For business, there are many reasons to fly to Calgary. There's quite a number of corporate head offices in the energy industry. For tourists, it is close to Canada's national Parks, including Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper. Germans... they like the nature!
