Sometimes a purse is just a purse

تم الإرسال

(A wonderful TSA rant by Patrick Smith's Ask the Pilot in Salon.com.) That’s the thing with airport security and TSA. There is always something funny to write about. And in place of “something funny” you may substitute the words “exasperating” or “troubling” or “a national embarrassment.” The latest from the Department of You Can’t Make This Up involves a teenage girl who was not allowed to carry a purse onto a flight in Norfolk, Va., because it was embroidered with the design of a handgun.… (life.salon.com) المزيد...

The TSA is a worthless agency, but I agree with them in this case. It WAS NOT embroidered with a gun -- there was a plastic gun attached that was painted to look like a metal gun. Embroidery is cloth.

Gun replicas are prohibited. I don't want screeners making judgement calls about that sort of thing. That's why replicas are prohibited. Do we define an exception for gun replicas that are attached to other things? How large does the "other thing" have to be to make it qualify?

She should've checked it.

Chip your drinking the kool-aid. What happened to common sense? If this is a actual replica then you fly backwards... Come on now.... This is basically stupid shit.

I saw the picture of the purse and the gun that was sewn onto the purse. It is by no means a "replica". I own many "replica" guns and they are just that, replicas. That means the "replica" gun looks and feels like the gun it is replicating. Furthermore, the replica has the same dimensions as the real thing, function as the real thing and a lot of the times, are the same weight as the real thing. What this girl had was a plastic, fake, symbol of a gun. Way to go TSA, you saved the day! NOT!!!!

Where do you draw the line? You want the TSA at every station to be able to determine an exact replica vs a partial replica?

Chip, we are dealing with a plastic symbol of a gun. It is not even life-size and it is not even a "partial-replica" as you put it. There is no way on God's green earth that this was a security threat.

What's next? Checking paper, pencils and crayons, so a passenger or child can't draw a "REPLICA" on board.

yeah saw that one -- what surprises me still is that I get on a flight and as I am walking back to get a seat I pass Granny with the 18" aluminum knitting needles. (Blunted aluminum spike that can be driving through and through a person. Yes the gun embroidery is not allowed.

I once had the pleasure of talking with a TSA manager and asked what the criteria was for getting the job and his response was that all they had to do was fog a mirror. intelligence is not a factor

The application is standardized for mall security guards and the TSA.

So are the TSA aying that if I draw a gun onto a piece of paper, they'll stop me a do something of a strip-search and call in the FBI?

Actually pilot Smith deserves what he's getting. He and everyone else who
has allowed themselves to be conned into believing an Arab with limited flight
experience can fly a Boeing 767 into a building 208 feet wide at 500 mph,
the building collapsing in 11 seconds while the majority of steel and concrete
disintegrates into dust 80 microns in diameter or less. Conspiracy theory? No, fact.

And this has what to do with a purse?

The purse is the disease or manifestation. The acceptance of the hoax (911 terror)) is the cause of the disease.

I was former Airline Management and when I applied at TSA was told that I would be fast tracked to management. Then they denied me ANY employment because I had a blemish on my credit report. So good credit must be a condition for employment for some odd reason.

Good credit is essential, but they'll let your felony convictions slide.

Christmas on the Ramp
BLUE (JUICE) CHRISTMAS

I'll have a blue juice Christmas without you.
My hands are blue just thinkin' about you.
Shoulda worn a green glove on my hands oh so clean
They're dirty, my dear, 'cuz you're not here with me.

And when the blue juice keeps drippin'.
That's when my blue, blue soul starts slippin'.
You'll be doin' alright with no lav dump tonight.
But I'll have a blue, blue, blue, blue juice Christmas.

You'll be doin' alright with no lav dump tonight.
But I'll have a blue, blue, blue, blue juice Christmas.

Shortly after 9/11 I was transporting a prisoner and I was armed. No problem with the firearm butI had to give up my pocket knife. Just how stupid is that?

A few years ago, a restaurant in the 'sterile area' at my local airport would lay out steak knives on every table as part of their place settings. This continued for a very long time before a mechanic suggested it might be an issue and the airport authority saw fit to suggest that the restaurant's management not just lay knives about for anyone to grab.
