Well, I myself avoid flying Delta Air if I have a choice. They are rude in the terminals as well as in the aircraft. Have flown with them Domestically as well as overseas and does not matter what from city to what city. By the way....... I am coach class. When TSA gained power, mandated by congress, the air crues became less than joy to have.

That's why DELTA is called "Never come back" within the airline industry people.

Well, I don't know if it was because it was a Saturday morning or not, but a week ago Saturday, I took a DAL turn from KMEM to KATL and back and the gate pushed us out 5 min early at KMEM; I had to wait about 5min for a gate at KATL cause we were 10 minutes early and we were boarded and ready to shove 10 minutes early going back to KMEM. I will add that we shoved right OT and straight off the ramp to the Tway so I can't speak to a problem. If the Airline was as bad as all are complaining about here, I don't believe they'd still be in business.

What i meant was they used to be that bad but have gotten better; the phrase has stuck. Also I was on Delta Connection from KSLC-Vancover and we left 4hrs late and no one knew why.

prolly because of snow delay? one flight i was on SLC-EUG oregon we were supposed to be delayed 6hrs because of snow in elko. it got down to 1hr because skywest(not delta) was able to find another CRJ for us

no snow problems the pilots did not even know

probably just the mainline flights taking up all the runway time.

Well, I fly DAL as a PAX 2-3 times a year domestic, but admittedly, most of it is on RJ contracts under the DAL flag; maybe I have just been lucky but I haven't had a bad experience yet, but I personally think they all can have a good day or bad day, depending on how the intro with the Captain goes. If he is an ass and a high and mighty type, I think a lot of it goes downhill from there.

DELTA seems to be an airline that does not have the good reputation it had in the past

You know what is funny though, they seem to be the airline everybody loves to hate, BUT, there is generall competition on every lane; if they are that bad, why do people keep flying them.

price...when you ask most passengers why they are on the plane, they usually reply the fare was the lowest they could find. I bet these folks were burning "Star Alliance" points or were "upgraded". I didn't think Delta had F/C anymore...thought they were Business/Coach only?!

Because for me Wayne, DAL is the only show in town. I was asked to come to Chicago last weekend, I called around, visted the sites, ect, the best I could find was $610 RT from MCW to MDW. I was not up to driving 120 miles to DSM (UAL quoted $230) or 90 to RST where the fares were half that (AAL quoted me $133 RT).

It is constantly like this with DAL. I just hope with Great Lakes, things will be a tad bit affordable.

You and I had this discussion once before on the subsidy thing vs actual cost. Doesn't matter but it goes back to the dereg thing. Private capital is going to do what it makes money at. Small communities are going to be left out. We have a nice airport here at KRUE but have never had commericial service, being halfway between KFSM and KLIT. Passenger trains went away in 1959 and even greyhound took a look last year. As a matter of fact they did leave, but gave it to Jeffererson lines. Point is, that is all private capital. There is no national transportation policy and until that need for such a policy is realized, it will continue to be unregulated and any corridor, PAX or freight, will only run if there can be a return on it. That will leave a lot of have and have nots but you can't have it both ways.

You say this like no other airline has ever been known to have rude employees. No airline, or any other service company for that matter has an entire workforce of polite and pleasant people, and it's pretty generalizing of you to say that Delta people are rude. In my experience, the customers who complain the most about rude service are, themselves, rude when they aren't getting the EXACT service HOW THEY want it, WHEN THEY want it...which is most likely why these two idiots were kicked off the plane. Doesn't matter what class of service it is, you don't have the right to disrespectfully treat service staff like servants or peons, and then throw child-like temper-tantrums.

...and what does the TSA have anything to do with the attitudes of flight crews??

I wouldn't speak to a nationality but having spent time among them, it seems that some German people, and I said some, can have a very arrogant and condesceding attitude, and this guy was a lawyer, but then again, it seems like the US is getting their share of these folks too. Just sayin'.

I don't know about the TSA comment above other than most flight crews are now having to pass thru security and them thinking they all get put in a bad mood by that.

Been around enought legal eagles most seem to think they are better than anyone else and treat others that way.

Looks like it was actually DAL413, not 414 as the article claims:

I fly Delta (Delta Connection) flights about twice a year...in coach, naturally, and I've always been impressed with the friendly, out-going nature of the crew. I've had a few problems with gate personnel but that was mostly because they were young, new, and/or inexperienced and didn't really know what they were doing..(Detroit has the most young staff I've ever seen). Air crews have been great, I even had a first officer standing near the door on arrival thanking us for flying Delta. (little did he know from our remote location, DELTA IS THE ONLY CHOICE....lol

Just about everyone is stressed in some way and babysitting a bunch of spoiled brats in first class would push anyone over the line. The flight attendants are not your personal butlers, they are more like waiters, cooks, airline security, lifeguards (in case of a water landing), and anything else they do behind the scenes. Plus they have to do this how many times a week? I think just saying "please" and a "thank you" goes along way with anyone nowadays and flight attendants are no exception.

I have had a couple of fa's on different airlines that seemed like they were having a bad day and could be rude at the drop of a hat, but have never had one actually be rude to me. I always am very courteous and respectful to them and it seems to be a two way street.

Having saved to fly first class as a treat, I found one thing in common on the two flights I had. Most of the 1st class flyers seemed to be very rude people. We were doted on by the Cabin crew, because we treated them nicely.

In fact one of the Servers told me as such. Said it was a rare treat to have a nice 1st class traveler.

I was on a continental flight and I was upgraded to first class from Houston to Tampa, very random don't know why, this never happens and usually flights are full. This was Christmas morning, coming off a redeye from CA..and everybody was saying "yes sir, no sir" and was very polite. The crew came around with juice which was very appetizing this early in the morning.Maybe it was just the holiday spirit or TX or something. Everything was great, except they didn't offer me any refreshments before take off..and I would be impolite to demand a drink, just because they didn't see me, or I was too late to board.

Best part of this was that I was in the front of a brand new 737-900ER, complete silence. I envy those who get to fly these, silence in the air, nice sound on takeoff. Seats very comftorable.

I am upgraded for travel often on Continental and find both the passengers and the crew very professional and delightful. Most everyone is either busy working or relaxing after a long week and tend not to bother anyone.

It's because a lot of the people in first class think they should get whatever they want because they're rich.

From my experience, most people sitting in first class didn't pay to sit in first class. They were upgraded, comped or somebody else paid for their ticket.

I never had any bad experience flying Delta.

I have been on some flight (other airlines) which would occasionally have problems with a passenger.

I worked in St. Louis for 15 years and TWA had made it there hub. Ozark had a hub there too. I would try and NOT use TWA where ever possible. Ozark was also bad in how they would treat passengers. One of the main things I had against TWA was "come fly with us and we will lose you some or all of your luggage."

I could't agree with you more. Where have the good old days gone? These flight crews already have enough concerns with out having to "babysit" passengers. Bring back the times where it was a pleasure to fly and passengers had respect.

rude people generate rude people - if you're looking for trouble, you'll find it -- flew 1ST class for years because of job(lots of travel) - always well served, always pleasant.... United, Alaska, Delta...

pax don't understand that when you're out of something on an airliner; you are OUT. Not gonna stop at the liquor store and pick up more champagne. Airliners are catered according to past flight usages...if a lot of passengers start drinking the same wine, Glenlivet, champagne...you run out quickly. Same with entrees...if everyone wants steak, many are going to be disappointed. Confucius says "passenger who wants choice of entree sit in front of plane"!
