IAH flight cancellations, delays: Airport tops US travel 'misery' map

Submitted
Houston led the nation in Misery Sunday, and it had little to do with the Texans. Flight-tracking service FlightAware's MiseryMap tallied 56 flights scheduled to depart from George Bush Intercontinental Sunday between noon and 4 p.m. that were delayed and two that were cancelled. That means nearly half of the flights scheduled during that period offered travelers a miserable experience. An additional nine flights from the smaller Hobby Airport were delayed during that period. Unreadable due to subscription solicitations, dang

Cannot read the article due to subscriptions. Flight Aware should not include in the weekly aviation news any article that requires readers to subscribe. Simple.

I am lucky to live about same driving distance from Houston and Austin, so I prefer Austin Bergstrom for long distance trips.

Thanks for the tip. I have never flown into Texas but if we do I will remember to use Austin.

IIRC IAH opened about in Jun 1969 and one of the (then) two runways was closed for repairs ... it was a poorly designed airport then but now they have so many runways that the terminals are apparently over loaded ... Also couldn't read the article due to subscription requirement.

And those double-letter taxiways… who thought that was a good idea?

Thankfully no one appears to be looking at Canada- mostly YYZ which has a poor passenger service record. At least you are flying in the USA! Services in Canada are heavily unionized, and very very inefficient due to massive amounts of “red tape”. The shortage of pilots and overall talent in aviation is critical, affecting all of us! Our current supply chain issues could have been moderated with honest foresight and leadership. The same principles apply to solutions. Not admitting to mistakes is counterproductive .

YYZ is the worst airport I have ever been to. Sadly many international flights require a trip to YYZ were they treat passengers like we are an inconvenience.

Couldn’t read article but know enough about IAH to avoid it at all cost. Last flight through on United we sat on tarmac for 45 mins waiting for gate to open. Dang tram was broken so had to walk (jog) a half mile for connecting flight. Fortunately United stepped up and held connecting flight for me. Lots of pissed off faces when I stepped aboard.

iah has had a whole lot of new construction going on these last several months, from a new terninal,to new roads and the like..that in itself has caused massive headaches for those travelling to and from that airport, let alone cancellations and delays due to weather or lack of flight crews..hobby is also having periodic road work and terminal improvements, plus the same issues with flight crews, delays and cancellations..people are just now getting back into the airplane travel mode for vacations and such,so misery and spending a lot of time coming, going, sitting in the terminal and such might be called "misery"!!
