Grumman F-14 Tomcat (16-4346) - 164346 is a Grumman F-14D Tomcat that is seen here on a grassy area right outside the Virginia Aviation Museum. It is currently on loan to the museum from the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Florida. During its fourteen year career with the Navy it flew off the decks of both the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Theodore Roosevelt. It is nice to see it sitting out here in the public eye (the road in the background is the only one that leads to the terminal so everyone going to and from the airport sees it) rather than falling apart in a boneyard somewhere.

This aircraft was delivered to the Navy on Feb. 2, 1992 and its last flight was on Sept. 15, 2006.

A ***** find and snap. And the VFA-31 "Tomcatters" design on the tail is one of my faves. The current VFA-31 Tomcatters squad, now flying F/A-18Es, just finished a training visit at NFL a few weeks ago.

Gary I hope all can see what this nut Ryan Reynolds is doing!

Whaa? I'm getting the idea that he is upset with me. What'd I do? What does my comment to Mark have to do with him? (???) Actually, he's just as entitled as everyone else to post comments. If he were to omit the profanities and his rather obvious frustrations concerning issues that are in no way aviation or photography related, I'd read his comments as fully valid ones just as I do everybody else's. (Personally, I liked his two AAY fuselage clicks taken at Akron Canton and I even complimented the Blue Man shot in a comment back when he first posted it, but then I deleted the compliment a couple days later when I saw some of the remarks he had made to other member's pics in the gallery.) As you know, I have never, and still haven't, IDed him specifically to FA at any time, but I just finished reading all his posts and I'm wondering if maybe I should. Most of the later comments he posted are perfectly acceptable ... in fact, I even agree with a couple of them such as when he points out that a photo is sideways, etc. ... but a couple comments don't seem to be addressing the a/c. Anyway, I don't know quite what I did to earn the comment (see above) but hey, if it helped him relieve an anxiety or two why then I'm glad to have helped out.

Thank you for the compliment Gary. I too really like the design on the tail and I'm so glad that the museum had it on display while I was out there visiting :)

Lovely picture, reminds me of my Navy days when I was fascinated with the F-14. I use to just go on the flight deck and watch them take off and land. An amazing airplane.

Thanks Ace. I have a friend who was a "Nuc" in the Navy and he told me that he too would go out and watch the aircraft takeoff and land. That's where he must of caught the "flying bug" because he is now getting close to earning his Private Pilot's License. Thanks again!
