enjoyed the history
Probably just a typo but shouldn't "2018" in the last line be "1918"?
You are correct. Thanx.
You're welcome - fascinating piece of history.
Enjoyed. Love hearing those kind of stories
In 1972 406 City of Saskatoon Squadron was reformed at Shearwater from VU-32 and HU-21 for which I was the flight surgeon. At the end of May in 1973, we took three Sea Kings including the Water Bird and four Trackers across the 2000 miles to take possession of the 406 Memorabilia which now resides at YAW and the Shearwater Air Museum.
Sorry for the brief but first hand history, but there are not many of us left who remember the years where a whole country was dedicated to a long European war and where every man and many women in a small country were in uniform or performing duties to support that war.
Shearwater was formed by the US Navy in 2018 and taken over by the RCAF for maritime patrol in 1920 and by the RCN in 1948 for carrier ops. They celebrate their 100th this summer. It is worth a visit to their Museum.
