Rumble Over the Redwoods, Humboldt County's inaugural airshow, and Lost Coast Warbirds organized a night run photo mission for all the local and out of the area photographers.

LCW organized the mission with the expertise of Scott Slocum and Bernie Vasquez who contributed the subject Dakota Territory Air Museum FM-2P Wildcat and his abilities as the pilot.

Thank you to Aidan for operating the firetruck for a dynamic rain effect and Cody for setting up the airport assets.

Very unusual night time shot - almost surreal. Great work.
Colin Seftel
Amazing photo Carson, but please change the type designator to the correct ICAO code (WCAT) so that your photo can be correctly indexed in the FA database.

1000 votes...what a spectacular picture

Admittedly staged and an awesome picture, but one can only imagine that this is just like so many of the late-night launches from our USN carriers so many years ago.

Great shot! But curious about the irregular-shaped square-corned 'object'at the 7:00 position of the prop? Any ideas?
Greg Douglas
@adelma - Are you talking about the front of the landing gear door assembly? Notice there's one on the port side of the aircraft as well. (0600 position). Or do you mean the lighter colored, larger object that goes all the way across from 0530-0700? That looks like just a trick of the light and shadow (and mist)
Gary Lufkin
Fantastic shot!!! That plane is actually an FM-2 Wildcat.
adelma
Greg - Yes, it's not the gear doors I'm talking about - it's the lighter-colored large 'object with square corners along it's bottom edge. It's probably just a reflection of some sort, as you can see the port gear door right through it.
Barry Witte
@Aldema - the ghost square you are asking about is the end of a pavement marking, such as a dashed runway centerline, that is below the aircraft. Do you see the same line above the aircraft, at the 12 o'clock position?
adelma
Barry & Greg - thanks; you've solved it!!
Neil Klapthor
A unique and beautiful shot...nicely done!
