VULCAN —
The front page of the Sunday Post... a newspaper that I do not think is now printed. It depicts the first flight of the AVRO 698 later to become called the Vulcan. The date is 31st August 1952. Two days after its first flight it appeared at the Farnborough Airshow where the Test Pilot Roly Folks, who used to fly NOT in a flying suit, but in an ordinary suit with SHIRT and TIE! he impressed the crowd by doing a Barrel Roll in it,that upon landing he was told NEVER to do it again as it was a BOMBER not a FIGHTER aircraft. if anyone wants a larger print of this please email me, [email protected] For the benefit of the chap that said he had read from Wikepedia the Vulcan had a flight ceiling of 55,000 feet, that was the B1 not the later Mk B2 which XH558 is, she was the first of the B2's AND THE LAST and she is the only one still flying, ONLY BY PUBLIC DONATIONS, with NO HELP from HM Government AT ALL.
