Boeing C-135FR Stratotanker (58-0102) - A KC-135R tanker from Tinker, 580102, begins the "slowing down" process by using flaps, ailerons, brakes, etc., after a noon-hour landing on KRNOs runway 16L. This oldtimer, built in 1958 (just eight years after I was born), has an entirely new lease on life as a result of it receiving a Block 45 program upgrade last year. All eight tankers in the 507th Air Refueling Wing (AF Reserve Command) at Tinker (Oklahoma) have been upgraded.

"5" stars again, Gary!!! Hey, I too was eight years old when that Stratotanker was built. So, tell me, where can I go to get a "Block 45" upgrade??? :-)

Nice capture and thanks for the link.

Outstanding!

Note the size and shape of the engines, well these are CFM-56s with a thrust rating of about 34,000 pounds. The original engines probably were P&W JT3C or J57 14,000 pounds of thrust, very noisy and left a trail of smoke like a chimney.

Snow in OK? Thanks for the Block 45 link. In the mid 1970s I had a few beers with a KC-135 crew in Guam (Anderson AFB) that was based in Maine (Loring AFB) and had come to WEST PAC for training. To a man they swore that their only long haul nav equipment/technology was a sextant. I wonder if the KC-135R qualified navigator is qualified in shooting the stars? I wonder if they even carry a navigator. Sorry for the long comment. BTW, nice pic.

Another beauty Gary!

Former KC-135Q tanker (when it had J57s.) Was part of the fleet at Beale used to refuel the Sled's.

I sure like that gray, simple but very coool

That's a really nice picture, Gary! I especially like the lighting, i.e. the sun reflecting off the "plain" gray aircraft. It makes it look more elegant than plain. Oh, I could use an "upgrade" too, since I would have been around three years old when it was built. ;-)

Great shot! I used to maintain KC-135A's at Castle AFB in '68.

5 stars for the "Tinker Tanker"
