It's operated by Neptune Aviation Services for fire-fighting (water bombing). See https://neptuneaviation.com/
Correction: This Tanker 40, usually carrying a fire retardant mixture of fertilizer, water and red dye. The resultant mixture is sticky and viscous in order to adhere to the foliage on the ground and colored red so the Air Attack officer usually flying above the fire can determine exactly where the last load was dropped and where to direct the tanker, usually with a Lead ship, where to put the next load. Often lines of retardant are laid out to form a fire break, but also useful in 'painting' structures/houses/barns to aid in keeping an approaching fire away. The tanker can meter the retardant with a computer driven shutter system thereby dropping a full strength salvo or a fine mist for controlling grass fires. I flew co-pilot on Tanker 10, a P2V-7 during the 2002 season out of Kalispell, MT. Then 8 years as Air Attack pilot in turbo Cessna Skymasters.
Great shot! ALL these tanker guys are busy this year. Just watched a Canadair CL-215 a few days ago scooping water from the Columbia River and dropping it on a nearby fire. Hard and dangerous work . . .
Great and heroic job !
