Our crews (and I) were first on scene and tried desperately to extinguish the fire and locate the crewmembers. There was a wide-spread area of fire and debris and it took quite an effort by a lot of firefighters to get it under control. Sadly, we couldn’t help the crew. That’s the worst part of our job. We train often for this type of response, which is why I’m always looking at, and photographing, all types of aircraft. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out right.
