Over 19 and a half years old at the time of this pic, this 747 started service with Alitalia in 1970 and went through various operators until lastly with TWA in 1996. With Continental it was at first registered N603PE and 3 and a half years later reregistered N17010.

Thanks rwb. Couldn't ALWAYS guarantee a great result from negatives and this one suffered from noticeable grain and not so good color, but there were no pics of it on FA and folks like to see old liveries and planes.

Full five! Excellent share from the good old days. Flew COA once (US to Tokyo military charter). At the time, United's slogan was "Fly The Friendly Skies" and Continental's was "The Proud Bird with the Golden Tail." My single experience on COA as a single GI left me with a mixture of both slogans: "Fly the Proud Birds in the Very Friendly Skies." And then, decades later, in an instance of extreme irony, my merged slogan from 1969 foreshadowed the United-Continental merger. COA was a great airline! I'll always remember it quite fondly.

Thanks Gary. I remember '...Friendly Skies' from Susan Raye's 'L A International Airport' back in '71. I remembered thinking it may have been a slogan because at the time we had 'TAA The Friendly Way' and let's face it, borrowing slogans was and is nothing knew. Never knew who 'Friendly Skies' was though.

Thanks Sandi.

Precious shot. Lorenzo's dive into airline ownership (Texas International, NY Air, Peoples Express, Eastern, and Continental). That was a Peoples Express bird in the mid-80's.

Interesting. She started with Alitalia named the Neil Armstrong. Cool. Then back to Boeing, then Hawaii Express, Flying Tigers, People Express, Continental, then ending its career at TWA before being scrapped. She got around. A life any plane would have wanted.
