This is a Convair F2Y-1 Sea Dart on display at the San Diego Air and Space Museum. It is the first seaplane to go supersonic. It is also the first delta wing seaplane.

There was also a much larger swept wing seaplane bomber being tested around the same time as the Sea Dart. Not quite supersonic but very close to it. I think it was called the Sea Master.

not mentioned is the impractical nature of all seaplanes -- difficulty in take off and landings in rough seas. Even the successful PBY-5a pilots manual discouraged such attempts and notes when absolutely necessary, the pilot 'could' use a full stall to flop onto the water (ouch).
