Air India Attempts To Join SkyTeam After Failing To Join Star Alliance

I thought SkyTeam was trying to make a deal with Jet Airways (newer fleet and more passengers) than with Air India. This is complicated by no information on why the Star Alliance could not reach deal with AI...if it was quality then it would be a bad move for SkyTeam. Business and "non-compete" clauses from LH which is heavily in that market would be the other reason. Either way, Jet Airways would look like the better partner and doesn't bring as hoard of Indian government bureaucrats with them.
First give back Volvo to the swedes, and Jaguar to the Brits... then, we 'll think about it.
Can't remember for sure but there was an article out a few weeks ago when the didn't join STAR ALLIANCE, and it wasn't a mateer of them not coming to agreement, STAR turned them down and more due to a safety thing or piss poor regulation thing. Big concern about that time over all that Pilot Flap,i.e illegal pilots, foreign pilots go home, etc.. I personally hope SkyTeam gives them a good lookover.
In my opinion, SA turned AI down because of instability in AI's financial structure. It has been loosing money since god knows how long. Also it is government operated and that is what any big alliances wouldn't want considering the fact that India has very high corruption. So in conclusion, I think all three alliances are eyeing Indian carriers, but private. Like One World is about to have Kingfisher in 2012 and Sky Team wants Jet Airways.
