Qantas to replace overhead bins on Boeing 737-800 BSI with new design to fit larger bags, and more bags
Qantas will trial a new overhead bin system in its Boeing 737-800NG aircraft designed to fit not only larger carry-on bags, but more of them. The retrofit cabin interior, codenamed Project Amber and developed by aircraft interiors firm Heath Tecna, will be installed by Qantas in the fourth quarter of 2012 and promises to boost overhead stowage capacity by 30-40%. Good one Philip .. ha ha . Yeah I reckon if they did create a mezzanine, how would they get my usual red wine up to me, amd my second helping of sweets ? You are so right though about carry on being weighed. There would have to be a limit to carry on baggage if more was allowed. Ken.
I'm not sure how more seat space can be created out of overhead space - I'm not aware that there's any such trade off. Does anyone think there's scope for a mezzanine?
You only have to experience what it is like in the US with sizes of bags being brought onboard, I like a bit of comfort when flying without having to put up people taking over my allocated bin for their oversize bags when I do the right thing and check my baggage.
More seat space would be better. Who wants to make more baggage space, instead of seat space ?? The airline does .. why ? Cos more seat space means less income. I struggle now with getting my bags outa the overhead, and I prob still will. Any way ... Cheers.
Cannot believe that this is being contemplated. Baggage handlers out there look for new jobs.
Certainly most interested to see the outcome of this trial. Will carrry on now be weighed?
