American 777 makes emergency landing due to fuel starvation
American Airlines flight AAL/AA183 from Los Angeles, CA, USA to Shanghai/Pudong, China diverted to Narita, Japan because of fuel starvation. The plane landed on the runway 34L of Narita International Airport safely, however, fuel was leaking from the No. 1 engine. The plane was stuck on the runway for 50 minutes. Doesn't read right as that sounds like it ran out of fuel. Think it was just low on fuel and from the description one engine had a fuel leak.
Fuel starvation occurs when the fuel pressure is dropped before reaching the combustor...same thing can happen in a car that gets a fuel leak...engine isnt getting proper fuel delivery and is therefore starved of fuel
