IATA Launches Platform Enabling Airlines to Share Turbulence Data
Geneva – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) launched its Turbulence Aware data resource to help airlines avoid turbulence when planning routes tactically in flight. Piot's normally will issue a prep. I have heard too many to count during my time as a full time pilot. Pireps are indespensable. One in particular involved Air Canada gave the center better altitudes simply for customer comfort. Its not uncommon today to hear pilots speaking on a VHF telling center and other pilots where the ride is better than the previous altitude. However some days you have to hack-it unless it is severe, thats where the possibility of structural damage is possible. 20 years ago a local pilot bent a PIPER AZTEC in severe turbulence.
