United CEO says he’s not sure travelers will want to fly a Boeing 737 MAX

When the 737 MAX is fixed, software or otherwise, it is fixed. I would have no problem flying on that machine. But I'd prefer to see some gray around the temples on the pilots flying it. There is nothing in the world that can substitute for experience at the controls!

Another misleading squawk title.

CEO Munoz's quoted statement “United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz on Thursday said he’s under no assumption that ALL (caps - my emphasis) passengers will feel comfortable flying on a Boeing 737 MAX plane anytime soon.”

I'm not that sure ALL airline passengers are comfortable flying on any airliner right now.

Mr. Munoz has some real brass making a comment like that considering the misfires that United has had during his tenure. I would feel better flying on a 737 MAX than I did on a Reeve Aleutian Airways Electra many years ago. Besides, pishield is quite correct in observing there is no substitute for experience when snakes crop up on the flight deck. Also, the Diesel 10 is proof of the maxim, "Nothing can be made foolproof, because fools are ingenious".

This is nothing new, as some has mentioned here.
Passengers have short memories and will have forgotten all about the problems of the MAX by the time it returns to service. I'm old enough to remember the problems with the Lockheed Connie, L188 Electra, DC6 and DC10.

Remember DC-10? High profile crashes due to design short coming never washes out...
