United Airlines gets a grim gift from WOW air
United Airlines — to say nothing of other major United States-based legacy carriers American Airlines and Delta Air Lines — no doubt were NOT among those feeling the cheer this morning when WOW air, the upstart Iceland-based ultra-low-fare international carrier, announced its holiday gift to travelers in Chicago and several other U.S. markets. Just found 2 seats on WOW from Chicago to Iceland in mid January. 2 carry ons and 2 checked bags. 2 coach seats, no frills. $1,409.86! $99 dollar fares? WOW, big surprise, total B.S.!
A Maybe you should have read the article and seen it was a purple days sale..BTW, looked at 2 seats Chicago to Reykjavik mid January Biz class for 2 return full frills $1,297.70..dont know where you looked.
I visited KEF last April and bought a $99 one way ticket to KEF from MIA and a $99 one way ticket back to MIA. No $ add ons. Great price and service.
WOW has been flying out of BWI for several years now. While they do not have any competition at BWI 50 miles south at IAD is Icelandic. They have some very attractive fairs for outbound service with two different classes in coach. Returning is another story only Basic Coach which is a basic seat no meal no extra leg room no free bag and it is 50%T higher than the outbound fare.
Those introductory prices are a buyer beware come on fare. They get you on the return flight. They are not going to lose money, not when they have a captive audience.

Who said you had to use them for a return flight?
WOW is very misleading in advertising, by the time you look at ALL the costs of a Return ticket to Europe via its hub in Iceland. They'll post a cheap outbound price alright, but by the time you see ALL of the add-ons, i.e., seat, ticket reservation, adm. cost, check-thru bag, FOOD, etc., etc., for each of the four legs of a trip to Europe, the cost is actually MORE than the cost of flying a major carrier; the jacked-up Inbound price back to your U.S. departure city is what is the coup-de-grace, of making the whole thing more expensive. WOW is a disappointment to this budget traveler. You can go to budget air sales operators and do far better on price with all the perks built in to a phenomenally low price rd. Trip.
