Biden Administration Looks To Marshal Airlines For Afghanistan Evacuation

تم الإرسال

The Biden Administration is looking to activate the Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF) to assist with the evacuation of Afghanistan. With the military evacuations continuing in earnest, there are more people than seats available on planes to evacuate key personnel and other evacuees from Afghanistan. As a result, US officials are looking to marshal commercial aircraft to assist in the evacuation. (simpleflying.com) المزيد...

Further info - If the first stage of the activation is approved, nearly 20 airliners would join the more than 150 military cargo planes now involved in the evacuation efforts.

Civilian planes would not fly into or out of Kabul, where a rapidly deteriorating security situation has hampered evacuation flights. Instead, commercial airline pilots and crews would help transport thousands of Afghans who are arriving at U.S. bases in Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates which have become bottlenecks

You're welcome. Note there's a newer post on Flightaware indicating the activation HAS occurred , and listing which airlines and how many aircraft from each. Typically 3 per carrier, but shows 4 aircraft from UAL fleet.

a bit troubling from the newer post is this statement --

".. that the Pentagon plans to temporarily house Afghans arriving in the U.S. at the Dulles Expo Center in Washington, D.C. before being transported to locations including Fort Lee, Virginia; Fort Bliss, Texas; and Fort McCoy, Wisconsin."

Certainly allies are welcome but the chaos engendered by the precipitous pullout provides a far greater security threat.

Thanks Andy. Flight aware also shows some flights are scheduled at Al Udeid Air Base near Doha. XJD/OTBH Two Delta A333s are scheduled from there to Frankfurt-Hahn. And a United B773 scheduled to Ramstein in Germany.

Only reason I know is I have been trying to figure DAL A350 routes. They have 15 in service right now and keep them busy. 3 more coming from LATAM, and at least one in Victorville right now.
